PAGE COUNTY, Va. — County supervisors will review plans for a proposed food-and-visitor hub this Tuesday.
On August 18, 2026, Governor Abigail Spanberger announced that Page County had been awarded a $50,000 state grant for the project. The grant was part of more than $507,000 awarded to 14 Virginia localities.
The governor’s announcement soon sparked discussion on social media among Page County residents — many of whom said it was the first they had heard of the proposed food & visitor hub.
In a joint emailed response to Shen-Valley Times on August 25, County Administrator Amity Moler and Economic Development and Tourism Director Nina Fox said a memorandum of agreement between the county and state had not yet been executed.
“Once the terms are finalized, the proposal will go before the Page County Board of Supervisors,” they said. “It is scheduled to be presented at the Board’s September 8 work session.”

The proposal asks supervisors to authorize the grant application, local match, tourism-fund spending, lease negotiations and implementation.
Capital spending would be capped at $200,000: a $50,000 state AFID grant, $12,500 county match and $137,500 from transient-occupancy-tax reserves.
The proposed lease is $1,500 monthly for five years, with extensions totaling up to 15 additional years.
The proposal identifies the “Main Street corridor” in Luray as the “preferred location” and specifically mentions 42 E. Main Street — the former location of Uncle Buck’s Restaurant.
According to the proposal, this property has existing kitchen infrastructure, including a commercial hood and range, which could reduce renovation costs and allow the facility to open sooner.
It was not immediately clear whether any other locations had been considered.
The proposal indicates a facility launch date as early as June, 2027.
The county’s current visitor center agreement with the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce expires July, 2027.
On Tuesday, the BOS work session will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a closed session. Public proceedings are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
