LURAY, Va. — C.S. "Bow" Cook, the longtime police chief who retired June 30, has accepted the position of assistant town manager.
In a July 21, 2026 Facebook post, the town made the following announcement:
The Town of Luray is pleased to announce that the vacant Assistant Town Manager position has been filled on a part-time basis.
Mr. Carl S. “Bow Cook has accepted the position following his recent retirement as Chief of Police.
After many years of dedicated service to the town, Mr. Cook is transitioning into an administrative role, where he will continue serving the community in a new capacity.
Mr. Cook’s extensive knowledge of the Town, strong communication skills, and commitment to public service make him an excellent addition to the administration team.
We are excited to welcome him back and look forward to the experience and leadership he will bring to this important role.

MARCH, 2026 VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT:
Bryan Crisman has served as Luray’s town manager since February 2024, when Steve Burke left to accept a position in Manassas.
Before that, Crisman served as Luray’s assistant town manager for 16 years.
After Crisman’s promotion, Michael Coffelt became Luray’s assistant town manager.
In March 2026, he accepted a position with Warren County.
Lieutenant Lonnie Foster is currently serving as Luray’s interim chief of police.
