Trash Truck Fire Closes Road Near Shenandoah National Park Entrance
LURAY, Va. — A trash truck was destroyed by fire Thursday night on US 211 East, near Thornton Gap Entrance Station.
According to the Luray Fire Department, crews were dispatched at approximately 9 p.m. and arrived to find the truck fully-engulfed in flames.
The vehicle, owned by Updike Industries, was about one-third full of refuse at the time.
Crews cut through the metal trash box to reach and extinguish residual flames inside.
Firefighters remained on scene for about three hours.
No injuries were reported.
