Traffic Stop Leads to Major Drug Bust in Luray
LURAY, Va. — On February 28, 2026, Luray Police Department [LPD] officers conducted a traffic stop on East Main Street after observing an individual operating a motor vehicle while unlicensed.
During the stop, a certified narcotics K-9 with the Page County Sheriff’s Office was deployed and provided a positive alert for the presence of narcotics.
Based on the alert, officers conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle.
As a result, officers recovered approximately 84 dosage units of LSD, 34 baggies containing suspected psilocybin mushrooms, 68 capsules containing suspected psilocybin mushrooms, 54 non-commercial (homemade) capsules, digital scales, and packaging materials, including baggies and clear empty pressable capsules.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as William Albert King of Luray.
During the investigation, officers obtained a warrant to search a residence on Stoney Brook Lane, and recovered additional quantities of suspected narcotics and related materials.
King, 42, was charged with:
Possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute (Virginia Code §18.2-248)
Possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance (Virginia Code §18.2-250).
According to court records, King is due to appear in Page County Circuit Court on May 21, represented by attorney Charles Butler. Butler currently serves on the Luray Town Council.
This case remains an ongoing investigation. Pending lab results, additional charges may be applied.
