Town of Luray Mourns Loss of Two Former Police Officers
LURAY, Va. — On Friday, the Luray Police Department announced the passing of two men who previously served with the department.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Retired Investigator Ron McClelland, a respected and dedicated career law enforcement officer, on October 30, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center.
Investigator McClelland devoted more than four decades of his life to public service, serving with distinction across multiple Virginia law enforcement agencies. His career was marked by professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to protecting his community.
In 1978, he began his public safety career when he joined the Prince William County Police Department as a Civilian Police Dispatcher.
His dedication and leadership were quickly recognized through a series of promotions:
• Police Officer – March 2, 1981
• Detective – February 21, 1986
• Sergeant – August 7, 1999
During his tenure with the Prince William County Police Department (1978–2004), McClelland served in multiple key assignments, including the Administrative Division, Criminal Investigations Division – Crimes Against Children Unit, Vice & Narcotics Bureau, and the Violent Crimes Unit. He retired from Prince William County on July 31, 2004, after more than 25 years of honorable service.
Following his retirement, McClelland continued his law enforcement career with the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as an Investigator from 2004 to 2008.
In 2008, McClelland joined the Page County Sheriff’s Office as an Investigator, where he continued to serve in both full-time and part-time capacities.
From 2017 through 2021, he served as a Criminal Investigator with the Luray Police Department until his retirement. Investigator McClelland provided leadership and expertise on numerous major cases. His professionalism and attention to detail made him an invaluable member of the investigative team.
Throughout his 43-year career, Investigator McClelland was known for his compassion, professionalism, and commitment to justice. He was deeply respected by his peers and the communities he served. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of law enforcement professionals.
The thoughts and prayers of the law enforcement community are with the McClelland family during this difficult time. Investigator McClelland’s service, leadership, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. He will be forever missed by the long-lasting friendships made throughout his law enforcement career.

It is with deep sadness that the Luray Police Department announces the passing of Retired Patrol Officer Brian Good on October 30th, 2025.
Officer Good faithfully served the Town of Luray and its citizens from 2015 until his medical retirement in 2021.
During his years of service, Officer Good demonstrated unwavering dedication, professionalism, and compassion for the community he served. He was known among his colleagues and residents for his kindness, sense of duty, and willingness to go above and beyond to help others.
His commitment to public service and his willingness to help left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege to work alongside him.
The Luray Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to Officer Good’s family, friends, and loved ones. His service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. Our hearts are with his family during this difficult time.
