Todd Gilbert Elected Judge for Page County and Shenandoah Valley Courts
PAGE COUNTY, Va. — Members of the General Assembly representing the 26th Judicial Circuit and District have announced the election of Todd Gilbert as General District Court Judge.
Gilbert was recommended to the bench by State Senators Mark Obenshain and Timmy French, and Delegates Tony Wilt, Chris Runion, Bill Wiley, Justin Pence, and Delores Oates.
He was unanimously elected by the General Assembly following the judicial selection process.
A native of Newton, Texas, Christopher Todd Gilbert graduated from Central High School in Woodstock in 1989.
He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in government from the University of Virginia in 1993, where he also served as a legislative intern for then-U.S. Representative George Allen.
Gilbert’s legal career began as a prosecutor, a position he held for more than 14 years across four jurisdictions. He later represented the Shenandoah Valley in the Virginia House of Delegates for almost 10 years.
He briefly served as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia (July 14 - August 20, 2025), and in September was named Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Page County.
Gilbert has served on the Virginia State Crime Commission, the Virginia Criminal Sentencing Commission, the Committee on District Courts, and the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (VASAP) Commission. He has also taught as an adjunct professor of legal research.
“Todd Gilbert brings exceptional experience, sound judgment, and integrity to the bench,” members of the delegation said in a statement. “He has earned the respect of colleagues across the legal community and across party lines, and we are confident he will serve the citizens of the 26th Judicial District with distinction.”
The 26th Judicial Circuit of Virginia serves Clarke, Frederick, Page, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Warren counties, along with the cities of Harrisonburg and Winchester. This circuit court handles major civil cases, felonies, and appeals from lower courts.
Gilbert’s appointment begins July 1.
