LURAY, Va. — A traffic stop in Page County Thursday morning escalated into a pursuit, crash and standoff with law enforcement.
According to a media statement from the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), the incident began at approximately 7:43 a.m. October 15, 2026.
A PCSO deputy initiated a traffic stop on a Ford F-550 near U.S. 211 and Northcott Drive.
The truck had a Virginia inspection sticker that had expired in March of 2024.
When the deputy instructed the driver to exit the truck, the individual allegedly sped away.
A brief pursuit ended when the truck crashed near U.S. 211 East and Whispering Hill Road.
The driver then fled on foot, leading to another brief pursuit and a standoff with law enforcement.
According to the PCSO statement, the individual displayed a knife during the confrontation, but was taken into custody without further incident.
The PCSO statement said that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that the driver was in the country illegally, and had previously faced assault charges in Maryland.
They also reported that the individual had alleged ties to the 18th Street Gang. He was subsequently transferred to ICE custody.
From the PCSO:
The Page County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting the safety of our community and will provide additional information as appropriate.
Authorities did not identify the driver or indicate whether local criminal charges had been filed.
The driver’s immigration status and alleged gang affiliation have not yet been independently verified.
The incident is similar to one that occurred on June 15, during which the PCSO apprehended a man they said was in the country illegally, had alleged gang ties and had faced assault charges in Maryland.
