Stanley Fire Department Responds to Four Calls in One Day
STANLEY, Va. — The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) responded to multiple incidents on Monday, including a structure fire, an outside fire, a vehicle fire and a service call.
Information about the April 13, 2026 incidents was provided by SVFD Captain Colin W. Huffman.
At approximately 4:57 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire involving a detached garage on Aylor Grubbs Avenue.
Huffman arrived at 5:01 a.m. and found the garage heavily involved, with flames threatening two nearby residences and several outbuildings.
Firefighters, along with a member of the Stanley Volunteer Rescue Squad, assisted an elderly couple in evacuating their home.
Members of Engine 24, the first-arriving unit, used a deck gun to knock down the main body of the fire.
The blaze was brought under control after about one hour.
The fire destroyed a 2013 Dodge Caravan, a 2012 Ford Taurus, a push mower, a riding mower and other contents inside the garage.
A nearby residence sustained heat damage and warped siding, but the homeowners were able to safely reoccupy the structure. The garage and home are insured.
Officials said wind conditions and a heavy fire load contributed to the fire.
A total of 15 firefighters responded with four apparatus.
Page County Fire and EMS and the Page County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
At approximately 2:32 p.m., the SVFD responded to a reported outside fire on River Road.
While units were en route, dispatch advised the incident involved a large controlled burn that required extinguishment.
SVFD Lieutenant Zachary Croft served as incident commander, and the Virginia Department of Forestry assisted.
Crews remained on scene for about two hours.
At approximately 5:36 p.m., crews responded to a vehicle fire on Piney Hill Road with extension into nearby grass.
Captain Huffman arrived to find four vehicles and a small area of grass on fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. Two of the vehicles sustained extensive damage.
Crews completed overhaul operations before returning to service. The vehicles were insured.
Page County Fire and EMS, the Page County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia Department of Forestry assisted at the scene.
Shortly after clearing the last fire incident, the department responded to a call on Honeyville Road for a residential lockout.
