Shenandoah National Park Announces Temporary Closure for 'Dignitary Visit'
LURAY, Va. — The area of Dickey Ridge Visitor Center in Shenandoah National Park will be temporarily closed Thursday, April 30, 2026 for a dignitary visit.
The closure, which will last from approximately 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is authorized under federal regulations that allow the park’s superintendent to restrict public access to areas to protect public health and safety.
The United States Secret Service will maintain security in the area, including restrictions on the possession of firearms, weapons and other potentially hazardous items.
Officials have not publicly identified the dignitary, but the closure coincides with a Northern Virginia visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Officials said closure times may be adjusted, based on the needs of the Secret Service.
Dickey Ridge Visitor Center is located at MP 4.6 on Skyline Drive. Shenandoah National Park headquarters is located in Luray.
