School Board to Consider Springfield School Closure at July 13 Meeting
LURAY, Va. — On Monday, the Page County School Board will hold a meeting to discuss potential changes to Page County Public Schools’ (PCPS) attendance zones and division facilities.
According to a June 25, 2026 PCPS media release, topics scheduled for discussion include the possible redistricting of school attendance boundaries across the county, a review of the waiver process that allows students to attend schools outside their assigned attendance zones, the potential closure of Springfield Elementary School and options for repurposing any vacated school buildings for civic, economic or housing uses.
“These are significant and difficult topics, and we recognize that any potential change may create questions and concerns for our families, staff, and community.
Our responsibility is to examine the long-term needs of the entire school division thoughtfully, transparently, and with a clear focus on providing the strongest possible educational opportunities for every student.
We want our community to understand the challenges before us, hear the options being considered, and have opportunities to engage as this process moves forward.”
— Dr. Bryan Huber, Superintendent
Officials also plan to discuss additional proposals intended to address the division’s long-term facility needs.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, July 13, in the Luray High School auditorium.
The division’s long-range facilities planning process will also include a comprehensive review of all school facilities and their future needs.
According to the written PCPS statement, discussions are part of the division’s long-range planning efforts as officials evaluate aging school buildings, budget constraints, the efficient use of resources and declining student enrollment.
School officials said the July 13 meeting is intended to provide information, review possible options and begin a public discussion about the future of Page County Public Schools.
No final decisions have been made, according to the release. Any changes approved by the board would take effect no earlier than the 2027-28 school year.
PCPS encourages families, employees, and community members to attend and remain engaged throughout the planning process. Additional information and future opportunities for public input will be shared as they become available.
The School Board and division leadership remain committed to clear communication, careful listening, and decisions that support students while ensuring the long-term financial and operational sustainability of Page County Public Schools.
