Page County Sheriff Says He Won’t Allow 'Government Overreach' on Gun Rights
LURAY, Va. — On February 25, 2026, Page County Sheriff Chad Cubbage released a statement saying he “supports and will defend every qualified citizen’s right to bear arms” and will “not allow government overreach” to infringe on constitutional protections.
In a statement (and accompanying video) posted to Facebook, Cubbage said:
Several concerned citizens recently reached out to me asking where I stand on the Second Amendment.
I want to make clear that I SUPPORT and WILL DEFEND every qualified citizen’s right to bear arms.
As a reminder, on December 3, 2019, I staunchly supported the Page County Board of Supervisors resolution to declare Page County a “Second Amendment Sanctuary."
Seven years later, I reaffirm my position to oppose state-level gun control measures that are unconstitutional — while protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.
You placed your trust in me to uphold the Constitution, and I stand firmly behind that promise.
And sometimes protecting and defending the Constitution also means standing up for law-abiding citizens when government overreach threatens constitutional rights and infringements follow.
God bless our nation. God bless our founding fathers, and God bless those who uphold and defend our Constitution.

It was not immediately clear what actions the sheriff would take if state gun laws were to change.
Cubbage was first elected in 2015. He’s currently serving his third term as sheriff.
