MEDIA RELEASE via Page County Fire-EMS
Page County Fire-EMS is proud to announce that Fire-EMS Technician Casey Burner and Fire-EMS Technician Ryan Lonas successfully completed the Emergency Medical Services Officer I (EMSO1) program this past weekend in Frederick County, Virginia.
The EMSO1 program serves as the entry level leadership training course for EMS personnel across the Commonwealth. It is considered the fundamental building block in the path of becoming a leader and officer within an EMS agency.
Designed for the Attendant-in-Charge (AIC) or those functioning in a supervisory role on an EMS unit, EMSO1 introduces the core knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to assume formal leadership responsibilities within EMS organizations. The course includes 8–10 hours of online pre-course work and 16 hours of classroom instruction.
Topics covered include:
• Budgeting and resource allocation
• Human resource management
• Conflict resolution and personnel issues
• Communication and team dynamics
• EMS administration and operations
• Community and government relations
Participants gain a strong foundation in leadership principles while developing the practical tools necessary to manage personnel, support agency operations, and improve the delivery of EMS services.
Completion of EMSO1 is also one of the several prerequisites for supervisory promotion within Page County Fire-EMS. “Although Technician Burner and Technician Lonas are not currently serving in supervisory positions, this training equips them to be strong, independent leaders and positive role models among their peers,” said Robbie Bly, Assistant to the Director. “Their commitment to professional growth strengthens our department as a whole and enhances the care and service we provide to our community.”
Page County Fire-EMS extends its appreciation to Frederick County Fire and Rescue for hosting the training and supporting this valuable opportunity for regional collaboration and education.
