National Weather Service Issues Urgent Fire Warning for Page County and Surrounding
LURAY, Va. — Due to especially dry and windy conditions forecasted for Wednesday, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Washington DC has issued a “Red Flag Warning” for the area.
According to the NWS:
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
The warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. November 5, 2025.
The NWS also issued the following weather statement:
The combination of 10-hour fuel moistures around 10 percent, relative humidity between 25 and 30 percent, wind gusts of 20–30 mph, and high temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s will lead to an increased risk of rapid wildfire spread on Wednesday.
This will be preceded by a night of very poor recoveries, further drying conditions across the area, especially in higher elevations.
Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and other flammable items in appropriate containers.
Use caution when operating equipment that could create sparks, and keep vehicles off dry grass.
Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other debris can easily ignite and spread fire quickly.
Lastly, remember to obey local burn bans.
