LURAY, Va. — Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a fatal crash that involved police in pursuit of a motorcyclist.
According to a VSP media release, the incident occurred Thursday, September 3, 2026 on East Lee Highway (U.S. Route 211).
An adult male, traveling at a high rate of speed, was the subject of a pursuit by the Luray Police Department.
At approximately 5:49 p.m., the motorcycle went off the left side of the road and struck a guardrail.

Scanner traffic indicated the crash occurred near Red Church Road, with the rider immediately unresponsive.
AirCare was called to land at Page Memorial Hospital, but the landing location was quickly changed to the area of Red Church Road and George’s Place.
Both lanes of U.S. 211 were temporarily shut down.
According to VSP, the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital, where he died the following day.
A VSP media representative declined to release the name of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
When contacted for additional information, a representative with the Luray Police Department declined to provide information beyond the VSP statement.
The crash remains under investigation.
