Luray Teen Donates Hair To Children in Need
LURAY, Va. — A Luray High School student recently donated 18 inches of hair as part of a community service project.
Jamie Sponsler had grown his mane over the past four years before cutting it to support Children With Hair Loss, which provides human hair replacement options to children and young adults experiencing medically-related hair loss.
According to the organization, hair loss caused by cancer treatments, alopecia and burns can lead to emotional distress, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression and social withdrawal.
Annually, Children With Hair Loss provides more than 650 no-cost hair replacements and care kits annually to children across the United States.
Sponsler’s donation of hair, a noble act prompted by a government class project, will help support one of those recipients.
The organization’s campaign message is, “Covering Young Heads To Heal Young Hearts.”
Sponsler, an LHS senior, is now sporting a more close-cropped look.
