LURAY, Va. — Town officials have released a statement clarifying that they are not considering allowing data centers within town limits.
The statement is in response to questions about a proposed zoning ordinance amendment that would add a definition for the use - but would not permit - data centers in any zoning district.
The July, 2026 social media statement reads as follows:
The town of Luray has received questions regarding data centers and would like to clarify its position.
The town is NOT considering allowing data centers within the town.
The proposed zoning ordinance amendment simply adds a definition for “data center” to prevent the use from being classified under another definition.
Data centers are NOT proposed as a permitted or special use in any zoning district.
The Planning Commission meeting packet, including the proposed ordinance amendments, is available on the town website for anyone who would like to review the information.
