Luray Man Arrested After Page County Pursuit Ends on I-81
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. — A Luray man was taken into custody Monday morning after a police pursuit that began in Page County and ended on Interstate 81.
According to the Virginia State Police (VSP), the incident occurred July 20, 2026.
At about 8:44 a.m., VSP were notified that law enforcement officers in Page County were pursuing a vehicle headed into Rockingham County.
State police joined the chase at the request of local authorities [including the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office].
The pursuit continued west on U.S. 33, where officers deployed a tire-deflation device near Spotswood High School.
Despite the damaged tires, the suspect continued driving and entered the eastbound lanes while traveling west near Massanetta Springs Road.
According to police, the driver traveled the wrong way for about two miles before returning to the westbound lanes.
The vehicle then entered Interstate 81 northbound.
Once on the interstate, VSP took over the pursuit and used a tactical maneuver to stop the vehicle near the 248-mile marker.
After a brief standoff, the driver surrendered and was taken into custody.
The suspect was identified as Shawn Seal, 34. He was charged with felony eluding by VSP.
The incident remains under investigation.
At press time, there was no published statement from the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) regarding what initiated the pursuit, or the charges Seal faces in Page County.
