Free ATV Wheelchair Program Expands Access to Shenandoah River State Park Trails
BENTONVILLE, Va. — Shenandoah River State Park is among several Virginia State Parks offering free access to all-terrain wheelchairs, opening up its scenic trails and riverside views to more visitors.
The specially-designed chairs are built to handle rugged and uneven terrain, giving individuals with mobility impairments the freedom to experience outdoor adventures that might otherwise be out of reach.
While the chairs are free to use, reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance by completing the All-Terrain Wheelchair Reservation Request Form online. A park staff member will confirm availability and provide instructions to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit.
Funding for the initiative comes in part from the Virginia State Parks license plate program, which directs $15 from each plate purchase toward accessibility and visitor experience upgrades.
Since 2019, this program has helped expand opportunities for more people to enjoy all that Virginia has to offer.
If your license plates are up for renewal in the Commonwealth, please consider making your selection our special Virginia State Park license plate - Virginia State Parks | Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
