Firefighters Respond to 'Brush Fire with Downed Power Lines' in Stanley
STANLEY, Va. — The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department recently responded to a brush fire involving downed power lines along Cubbage Hollow Road.
According to officials, the call came in at approximately 11:11 a.m. on April 1, 2026.
Lt. Zachary Croft arrived to find approximately a quarter-acre burning with power lines down, creating hazardous conditions and complicating suppression efforts.
Firefighters faced steep terrain and a downed line until the power company shut off electricity, allowing crews to safely work the scene.
The fire ultimately spread to about one acre before it was fully contained.
Crews established containment lines using both dry and wet methods and brought the fire under control in about 90 minutes.
Firefighters remained on scene for an additional hour to reinforce lines and extinguish hot spots.
Four apparatus and 13 personnel from the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department responded. They were assisted by a brush truck and four personnel from the Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Company.
The Virginia Department of Forestry also responded, and Page County EMS staged an ambulance nearby.
The Luray Fire Department stood by at the Stanley station to handle additional calls.
