Fire Truck, Tractor-Trailers Involved in Separate I-81 Crashes
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating two separate crashes that occurred early Thursday on Interstate 81 near the 238-mile marker.
At about 12:15 a.m. on Oct. 30, 2025, troopers responded to a crash involving two tractor-trailers on the northbound side of I-81. Police said one tractor-trailer jackknifed, and a second struck it before both came to rest in the median.
The driver of the second tractor-trailer was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the jackknifed truck was charged with reckless driving, according to VSP.
As emergency crews were responding to that crash, a Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Company truck traveling southbound on I-81 with its emergency lights activated slowed down and was struck from behind by a 2018 Ford sedan.
The driver of the sedan was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, and a passenger was also hospitalized. No one aboard the fire truck was injured.
Both crashes remain under investigation by VSP.
