Early-Morning Break-In at Luray Middle School Leads to Arrest
LURAY, Va. — Law enforcement arrested a Page County man after a breaking and entering incident early Tuesday.
On the morning of December 2, 2025, all Page County Public Schools were already on a two-hour delay due to a winter storm. At approximately 7:39 a.m., officers responded to a call for assistance at Luray Middle School, and discovered a broken window on the lower level.
They immediately conducted a full search of the building and confirmed that no one was inside. Out of an abundance of caution, however, classes at all county schools were canceled for the day.
An investigation was launched, including a review of the school’s security camera footage. Through that review, investigators identified a suspect.
Deputies later made contact with the individual, identified as Shawn Hugh Sheriff. He was taken into custody without incident at his Shenandoah residence.
Sheriff now faces the following charges:
• VA Code 18.2-91 – Breaking and Entering with intent to commit a felony (Destruction of Property) – Felony
• VA Code 18.2-138 – Destruction of Property valued over $1,000 – Felony
• VA Code 18.2-212 – Maliciously Activating a Fire Alarm – Misdemeanor
Via Facebook, the PCSO thanked the Luray Police Department, the Shenandoah Police Department, the Elkton Police Department, Virginia State Police and Page County Public Schools personnel for their assistance during the incident.
