Bakery, Housing to Bring New Life to Luray’s Former Art Warehouse
LURAY, Va. — A new 4,000-square-foot bakery and casual eatery is coming to the former Art Warehouse building, bringing fresh-baked goods, pasta and a hot food menu to the downtown space.
Earlier this month, Luray Artisan Bakery announced plans for the expansion, which will occupy the ground floor of the building and provide significant room for baking equipment and food preparation.
The South family, which owns Luray Artisan Bakery, also operates The Bread Shed, a self-service roadside micro-bakery on South Court Street.
The honor-system stand offers artisan sourdough and sandwich breads, cinnamon rolls, scones, cookies and a rotating selection of seasonal baked goods.
The larger art warehouse space at 15 Campbell Street will allow the bakery to expand its offerings to include breads, fresh pasta, cakes, cookies and other goodies.
Plans also call for a hot food menu featuring breakfast sandwiches made with house-made bread, along with lunch offerings, fresh pasta dishes, soups and sandwiches.
The bakery expansion is part of a larger redevelopment project.
The Luray-Page Chamber of Commerce described an August 14, 2026 event for the project as a “groundbreaking ceremony,” with attendance limited to guests who RSVP’d.

Once completed, the project will feature affordable workforce apartments, food service, and collaborative co-working space, bringing new energy and investment to the heart of our downtown.
Following the ceremony, guests are invited to enjoy light refreshments featuring local food, tour the lower-level building in its current state, and view the vision and plans for the complete redevelopment.
