10-Year-Old Honored After Rescuing Toddler From Pool in Luray
LURAY, Va. — A young girl is being praised by the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) after she rescued a 3-year-old at Yogi Bear Campground on Wednesday.
According to the PCSO, the incident occurred July 29, 2026.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., 10-year-old Vivian Taylor spotted an unresponsive toddler in the campground’s pool, and immediately pulled her from the water before carrying her to safety.
A written media statement from the PCSO did not indicate how the child ended up in the water, or the circumstances surrounding her lack of supervision. However, they stated that she was immediately flown to a hospital for treatment, has since been released, and is recovering.
The PCSO said Vivian's quick thinking and courage made a critical difference during the emergency.
To recognize her actions, the PCSO presented her with a letter of commendation, a PCSO challenge coin, a department patch, and a coupon for free ice cream.
